(No downvotes on relevance.) The communities will be built around keywords which select relevant posts and threads.
Relevance will be a simple on-off toggle for each person for each keyword. (Unless you choose to filter out lowly regarded content.) And you are encouraged to vent your rage by marking the angry face / down-arrow / thumb-down / ass button for a post or thread you don't like. "Regard", the next replacement of Karma, will not affect a post's visibility.And I think the same replacement will fix both problems.
It's not even my primary complaint with reddit. Know any others? Message #scifi and let your friendly mods know!

I am very very saddened to hear the news of Doctor Who star Lis Sladen's death from cancer on the morning of 19th April.
